About Us

We’re lucky to share common interests in theatre, good food and interesting travel. Well actually it’s no surprise at all since they were the initial dating requirements under which we met! Many years later we still retain the same opinions, a good match obviously!

Most years we get two good holidays, sometime that becomes three or a work trip is added into the mix. The outcome is we have a great collection of experiences that we’re always delighted to talk about to anyone who will listen. In 2015 I started to write on FaceBook but it’s not really suited to that medium, so I moved over to Blogger, naively creating a new address for each trip. In 2020 all our former blogs have been migrated to a single point of entry still on Blogger, but after a series of photo losses I lost confidence in that platform and in 2023 created this WordPress version, currently with 842,055 words in 554 blog entries.

As it grows I’m dividing the sections up to make it easier to navigate, and there will always be a latest and a full chronological list too. There are a lot of photos missing, it will take me a while to restore them, however the writing is all here since blog number 1 – Mexican Riviera 2016.

After spending the first 23 years of our life together working for Northern Ballet in the UK, we’re both over that chapter now. It was wonderful, interesting, frustrating, exciting and finally, devastating.

Our home in the small (pop. 1000) village of Cawthorne was wonderful – incredible aspect across a valley, huge rooms and windows perfect for entertaining, a big garden, and with good neighbours across the road. With countryside just 100m away, we could walk for miles, enjoying the rolling hils, a wonderful green and pleasant land indeed. However we always knew that we would move somewhere warmer than South Yorkshire, and in 2021 we started that journey by buying a home in South Tenerife.

In October 2022 we uprooted, and moved permanently, looking forward to discovering the new life we have created in another small village (pop. 2000) there are some astonishing similarities and many differences. We still have a perfect entertaining space with lots of windows and a great view, and with a fabulous garden. Good neighbours so far as well. The walks are great – we have a diverse ecology – everything between dessert and rainforest can be found. Our modest-sized island, equal in size to West Yorkshire, is full of surprises!

We have a lot of advertures yet to come, and hope that all our visitors to this site enjoy our adventures as much as we do. As the blog has grown I’ve split it into travel, food and just liviing the dream. Follow anything and wander as you please, please sign up to the newletter if you wan’t to know when I post a new page – it’s in the footer of any page.
