This larger island contains 11,000 of the entire chain’s 15,000 inhabitants and is a very popular holiday destination. We decide to take it easy today and only do a small walk around the area of the capital.
Having spotted Black Rock on Google maps I felt we had to go there, so again we walked along the edge of the airport to reach it. On a beach, the rock is imposing and quite photogenic, so we mess around for a while before walking back along the other side of the runway. We enjoy a resounding church service as we pass by – the islanders are in fine voice.
The town is very quiet, Sunday is church followed by family here, so no shops or services beyond the bus and a few taxis. We continue walking to a coral beach and along it for a while before turning past the original 1905 hotel, Cathederal and a few government buildings.
Dinner is in Thomas Keller Grill and we opt for Cæsar to share, daily specials of foie gras terrine and gnocchi, Dover sole to share (expertly de-boned by the Grill’s Maître d’Hôtel) and then sensibly skip dessert.
It’s a company show and whilst not our favourite, we enjoy the songs allegedly synonymous with NYC.
