Sea days happen either side of Madeira on this itinerary, it will be exactly the same next week.

We start with a vengeance doing our laps – around  deck seven today is particularly challenging since the deck team have four different maintenance projects on the go, but we manage our 8km despite their best efforts to close sections off.

Sailing due south means our preferred spot on deck 15 aft is quite shaded, and soon after lunch we have lost what little bit of sunshine we had.

We look elsewhere and find a nice space on 16 next to the stack and settle down with a mixture of computers, iPads and phones to do our blogging, Spanish and reading for a while, the only downside to this arrangement is that there’s no service so we have to fetch our wine ourselves, which is perhaps for the best as today’s waiters at the poolside bar are quite unfriendly.

Our jacuzzi session is spent with a Brummie couple (‘actually we’re from Solihull’) and two lovely Romanian ladies, all of them P&O virgins although the latter two are not cruise virgins. It’s really interesting to hear what other people think of the ship’s food and service standards and find we’re not alone. We end our afternoon with some early evening sunshine on our balcony before getting into our glad-rags.

Dinner is formal again, and again we have a reservation in Sidhu. It s a different menu to last time, and we find lots of new dishes to try, all really very good with fabulous flavours, a most enjoyable evening, at least until we go to the comedian in the smaller theatre who is really not funny.
