Because of the terrible fires in Lahaina, we are not visiting the island of Maui. Instead we get an overnight and second morning in Nawiliwili, so we wander off to check out the view over 1000 year old fish ponds, apparently the also place the original Indiana Jones film’s opening shot was made.

Talking movies, the whole Jurassic Park franchise was filmed around the islands, and the views certainly are spectacular even just around the corner from the ship.

After enjoying a bit of scenery we head back into town and along the beach and then the harbour wall, before going home. One of the strangest sights is these jacked up pickups the American’s love!

We’re not long after lunch and sailing away from Nawiliwili when Captain tells us we’re turning around because of a medical emergency. Soon after we get a second update that in fact we’re now heading towards Honolulu, clearly the problem has worsened. Later yet we’re told an emergency evacuation is to take place, a helicopter is already on its way.

We observe staff making various preparations both on a rear section of deck and also on the forward deck. Forty minutes later we are told to clear all decks, return to our cabins and remain well away from our balconies. Eventually we’re told the evacuation went to plan and the patient and their spouse are on the way to hospital. We wish them well.

Dinner is in the posh grill again, fabulous duck and lamb tonight. And then showtime is called Latin Quarter, you can probably guess what flavour the music and song was!!
