Open to interpretation of course, but mathematically today is a short day. We lose seven hours on the flight to Hong Kong so it only has 17 from start to finish, but as we’re awake for nearly all of them, it could be argued that it feels like a long day!
Dinner is served just after midnight, and once again Swiss doesn’t disappoint. The six-course meal is very good, A combination of great flavours, presentation and preparation. The wine selection is also good, a few more choices than the Edelweiss brand, with a broader international representation.
Sleep was intermittent, I know I managed three hours, but that’s probably enough anyway. A few films and my current book provided enough to while away the remaining time and it doesn’t seem too long before we’re being served breakfast which is weird given that we land at 17:30 HK time! Maybe afternoon tea could have been a better option?
We’re amongst the first off the 777 and it’s quite a walk to immigration. It’s amusing to see a line for HK nationals and further away one for visitors, but they then merge into a single queue for processing. Even more amusing is that as this line grows, immigration staff keep closing their booths and walk away, so the people behind are going to wait quite a while. We’re through this enormous airport in about 20 minutes and as a consequence our bags are waiting for us. From landing to being picked up by our driver is about 40 minutes, and it takes as long again to get to our hotel on HK Island, passing huge tower blocks as drive in – not bad!
We contemplate going out for dinner, but one of the hotel restaurants is Thai fusion and has a particularly good rating, so we stay in and try this one. We only need one course, hubby has confit duck red curry and I have black pepper tiger prawns. Both are fabulous.
We take a walk along the promenade – actually the walkway under the motorway which hangs out from the island. The views across Victoria Harbour back to Kowloon Side and also along the island are gorgeous and quite colourful.
