Two little grumbles, then we can talk about this fabulous experience. Firstly we’re told to arrive at 19:30 so we do, but we’re not taken to the dining room until 20:05 and nor are we offered an aperitif to keep us happy whilst we wait. Second the inter-course muzak drove me mad – 16 bars repeating many times really isn’t fun for this particular writer!
Every other aspect of the Le Petit Chef experience, however, is a lot of fun, if not the fine dining we’re promised.
At the outset we’re asked to keep the table free of personal items – why, because it’s the stage, and within moments we’re treated to a projected garden scene, complete with greenhouse, vegetable plot and a pesky mole. The little chef goes about his business, thwarted by Mr Mole’s behaviour until the final explosion reveals a plate, which is soon substituted by the real thing, our first course is a whole burrata with pesto dressing and perfect salad accompaniments.
Next we’re seeing chef arrive via submarine into a marine setting, his antics include snaring a lobster, fortunate since no sooner is it cooked by underwater explosion, that the real thing is delivered. It would have benefitted from being looseind from it’s shell before service.
A grill is the theme of the next video, with accompaniments close enough to the soon arriving pavé of beef fillet, which like all the courses so far is plentiful and delicious.
We’re treated to two desert videos, not quite sure why, but the final one mimics the crème brûlée which arrives moments later, yet again very good. It’s a delight to hear that the couple at the only other table in use has respectively proposed and accepted!
The evening completes with a trip to the fire-pit atop the south tower, where we enjoy a large cava as the final part of the experience.
The service from Mario, who combines food, wine and master of ceremonies roles is excellent and we can definitely recommend this experience at Hard Rock Hotel Tenerife.
