We enjoy receiving visitors. Shortly after our return from Japan we have our friends Maria and Joanne & John for a week, we cover some old haunts and a few new (to them) places too.
Here’s a shortened gallery of what we did this week.
Our first destination is Santa Cruz de Tenereife, the “new” capital of the island, followed by San Cristóbal de La Laguna, the “old” capital. The switch was in 1833 when Santa Cruz was also the sole capital of the Canaries, a role now shared between here and Las Palmas de Gran Canaria.
Another day we head to the northern side of the island, and call at the town of Garachico, which sadly was destroyed by the 1706 eruption, all apart from one house, which shows the difference between the new street-height and the old. I scale the tower but no-one else joins me!
Our last adventure is a walk around Los Cristianos, and later to the wonderful History at Hard Rock Cafe in Las Americas.
